| Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) of San Antonio, Texas, was selected to analyze engine wear both with, and without the Prelub™ system. SwRI also considered the impact of the Prelub™ system on conventional starts where engines typically require 8 - 15 seconds to reach oil presure.
This research has documented that the use of the Prelub™ technology will reduce engine rod bearing and ring wear by up to 60% on average under typical and severe startup conditions.
The study concluded: Where an engine sees as little as an 8 second delay before achieving oil pressure, the Prelub™ starter will reduce total rod bearing wear by up to 60% and do so 95% of the time.
The study also considered the impact of the Prelub™ system on intermittent machine usage -- those machines that are used less than 2,000 hours per year. Where customers routinely experience overnight and weekend shutdowns, use of the Prelub™ system will reduce total bearing wear by an average of 53%.
